Skandia Cowes Week - Day 2 Results

Daring fleet in a down wind start on day two Skandia Cowes Week 2008 onEdition http://www.onEdition.com

Despite the miserable weather this morning, for the start of the second day of Skandia Cowes Week, there's plenty of wind to keep competitors on their toes.

The 83-strong Laser SB3 fleet had spectacular start downwind, downtide from the Squadron line and amazingly there were no recalls. Yesterday's winner Jerry Hill and team on 3 Sad Old Blokes had a good start and, sporting the winner's pink spinnaker, an idea taken from the yellow jacket in the Tour de France, flew to the front of the fleet once again but was unable to keep up with match racing champion Ian Williams on Pindar who, at the finish, had a 1 min 17 second winning margin over the Sad Blokes.

Meanwhile young Fred Warren-Smith, the youngest helmsman here at Skandia Cowes Week is giving the seasoned Squib sailors a run for their money. And the XODs, the final White Group fleet, has just started at 1250. Stuart Jardine on Lone Star is in the lead.

Jon Powell and his super-hot team on Betty have made a big impact in the Hunter 707 fleet with two straight wins after two races. Powell from Warsash Sailing Club last sailed the boat in Skandia Cowes Week four years ago and hasn't had it on the water since because he's been racing his J/24.
