Day three of the SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week dawned with a welcome downpour before the clouds lifted for the start of the only race of the day, a short course for the IRC and PHS divisions.
The combined fleet will sail a 9m course taking them down towards Townsville city, past Picnic Bay and back to the finish off the stunning Magnetic Island.
The forecast for the 11.30am start is a light north-east breeze building to about 10 knots.
This short race will likely be the key factor as to who takes control of the top of the leaderboard in the IRC division. Going into today’s race Bob Steel’s Quest (1/4) is in equal first with Leon Thomas’ Guilty Pleasures VI (2/3) on five points. Sharing the next placings are David Currie’s Ponyo and Peter Sorensen’s The Philosophers Club.
In the PHS Division Rob Curtis’ Kerazy with 1/1 results so far just needs to sail very smartly in this light-air to all but secure the top place. Second place is currently held by The Philosopher’s Club (4/2) with Guilty Pleasures (3/4) in third.
All other divisions have the day off. Most of them will be land-based enjoying the festivities at the Townsville Airport Picnic Bay Beach Fair. Some are planning to find their way to Horseshoe Bay to anchor off the famous beach for an afternoon of well-earned leisure.
