Waiting for wind - 2013 CentrePort International Youth Match Racing Championship RPNYC Events

Day 2 of the 2013 CentrePort International Youth Match Racing Championship got off to a slow start as the sailors waited for the southerly breeze to arrive.

By late morning the breeze had built to a point where the sailors could head out to the track and get racing underway to complete the final two flights of Round Robin 1.

After twenty seven matches the very last match of the round robin ended up being between Ash Rooklyn’s team from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and Sam Gilmour’s team from the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, both of whom were on six wins. In a tight match Gilmour managed to come out on top and take the early psychological advantage at end of the first preliminary stage.

So after the first round robin the standing were:

1st Sam Gilmour - Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club: 7 wins
2nd Ash Rooklyn - Cruising Yacht Club of Australia: 6 wins
3rd Sam Mackay - Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club: 5 wins
4th Basil Connor - Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club: 3 wins
5th Hampus Applegren - Royal Swedish Yacht Club: 3 wins
6th Milly Bennett - Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club: 2 wins
7th Scotty Barnes - Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron: 2 wins
8th Beren Beowulf - Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron: 0 wins

Race Officer Ken Burt has pushed on with Round Robin 2 which by the end of day is just past the half way point.

Racing is set to continue on Wellington Harbour tomorrow with the final matches of second round robin which will be followed by a semi finals series before the finals which are scheduled for Sunday.
