The Royal Akarana Yacht Club Youth Sailors only started racing just a couple of seasons ago, but are now moving through the ranks with most of them headed for the Starling.
Eli Liefting, Harry Butler and Henry McLachlan are amongst the few who have advanced from Optimists to Starlings and the three of them were out training in the blustery conditions over the weekend.
'Starlings are awesome!' said Liefting who couldn't get enough of the conditions.
'Did you see how fast we were going!' asked Butler when he returned to shore.
'Haha that was so much fun but I capsized!' laughed McLachlan.
The RAYC Starling fleet is Eli Liefting, Harry Butler, Henry McLachlan, Louis Ralph, Danny Su, and Oscar Little with a few others set to also move into the class.
The Starling fleet will race at RAYC for the first time on Sunday 12 June as part of the club Winter Series. Starling sailors from other clubs are also invited to race.
RAYC also has active Optimist and RS Feva Fleets.
