The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron have now extended their International Sailing Fund to help cover the costs of club volunteers involved in overseas race management.

The fund, initially set up to help sailors compete in overseas events, has grown through member support, donations and organised events like the Charity Regatta.

Volunteers including umpires, judges, race management and boat drivers are now eligible to apply for this fund to further their experience, knowledge and enjoyment of the sport in overseas events.

This fantastic initiative will allow many Umpires, Judges and other race management volunteer personal to take on further challenges abroad and grow their expertise in Race Management, therefore allowing volunteering for Race Management activities to become much more appealing for new members and allowing the overall sport of sailing to grow a stronger base of volunteers.

Volunteers are the most key aspect of running a club, and that is even more applicable to running a yacht club, sailing series and major sailing regattas.

RNZYS Vice Commodore and Chair of Sailing Steve Mair commented “It’s a sport that runs almost entirely on volunteer support and we acknowledge the amount volunteers do and the costs they often incur. We are pleased to extend the RNZYS support to these fantastic people”.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron looks forward to receiving applications and growing the volunteer base of race management and sailing in New Zealand.
