The hosting right for the upcoming New Zealand Noelex 22 and Ross 780 Championships has been awarded to Plimmerton Boating Club, who boasts one of the most spectacular sites for national and international sailing events.

From October to April, on the beautiful waters of Plimmerton, a large fleet of Trailer Yachts keenly compete each week...its friendly rivalry at the home of the Noelex 22 fleet at Plimmerton and nobody can afford an error.

With Mana Island the backdrop of the sailing area, and opening onto Cook Strait, these are arguably some of the best sailing waters in Wellington, well supported by a healthy club, a clubhouse with magnificent views and fantastic launching and rigging facilities.

Plimmerton is proud to be hosting the 2013 Noelex 22 and Ross 780 National Contests in early February this year. Local Race Officer Tony Brown will have his hands full with an expected Noelex fleet of over twenty boats, including the regular eleven Plimmerton boats and at least three from further up the North Island and several from down the South Island, and a possible fleet of twelve Ross 780s boats. Along with the Noelex 25 fleet which are sailing at Evans Bay Yacht Club special rates have been negotiated on the Bluebridge Ferries from 1 - 12 February.

Plimmerton Boating Club will be buzzing with the measuring and briefing on Wed 6 February followed by an invitation race that evening, then three more days of full-on racing from the seventh to the 9th February, with three races being held on each day.

The club welcomes all visitors interested in yachting to take advantage of the club’s location. Plenty of accommodation is available in the immediate area, the railway station is nearby and it is a short trip to Porirua for shopping or to Wellington City or the Kapiti Coast for exploring or more adventurous activities. Contestants, friends and families are welcome to take advantage of the boating club's excellent restaurant and bar facilities in the clubhouse which offers breathtaking views of the sailing area. For contestants, takeaway lunches will be available to purchase daily.

Club members are supportive and we are delighted to have input from sponsors Todd Olsen and Dave Molen, local sailors and owners of Seaview Sails and Plimmerton Boating Club
