Platu 25 Worlds - EUZ II Monella Vagabonda is still leading in France

by Sabrina Bonaiti on 26 Sep 2014
Platu 25 Worlds 2014 in Antibes, France. Gérard Chauvel
After four very competitive races yesterday at the Platu 25 World Championship, the Italian 'EUZ II Monella Vagabonda' owned by Francesco Lanera and helmed by Sandro Montefusco is still leading, followed by the Swiss 'Superbusi' helmed by Mathias Bermejo who placed two brilliant first places yesterday. The Italian 'FIVE for fighting 3' owned by Tommaso De Bellis and helmed by Giulio Desiderato- at same points with 'Superbusi'– is fighting for the third place.

Also the French 'Black Flag' owned by Christopher Chaffardon gained upon the fleet yesterday with a brilliant first place in the third race and keeps the fourth position in the general ranking list, ready to launch an assault to the podium in the last races scheduled for today and tomorrow. Another team gaining positions is the German 'Kamlade' helmed by Nickel Gordon, while the Swiss 'Ursa Minor' helmed by Tom Studer, with Markus Sigrist as a tactician, gets back into the game, thanks to a second in the second race yesterday.

The races scheduled today and the second discard will change the situation for any teams in next hours. Francesco Lanera is satisfied even if the game is still on and the result is not taken for granted: 'We are racing well and we are still leading the ranking with a good eight points distance. We have a six to discard, compared to a 10 by Five for Fighting. The challenge will be with our friends from Puglia and the Swiss Superbusi that is revealing to be very determined. We need to keep a good concentration in these two last days'

On board of Superbusi, the Swiss boat helmed by Marthias Bermejo coming from Luzern Lake, is possible to breathe a certain breeze of podium, even if Bermejo tries with diplomacy to damp down on enthusiasm: 'We can say that we started to know how to deal with waves and sea conditions. Today we began with two first places and it made us satisfied. At the moment, our target is to stay in the first ten positions in the general ranking. We try to keep going well and sail as best as we can'.

For the 'Five for Fighting' team, after the difficult beginning in the first day, last results open a window: 'After the first negative race, from the second day we made our best, we took more risked on the starting line and approaching buoys. The difference has been marked by our tactician Michele Regolò who raced perfectly in difficult conditions, with wind shifting from three to 12 knots in a second and jumping until 40 degrees. We are confident about our chances and we’ll do our best'.

Today 35 crews that take part in the Platu 25 World Championship, organized by Société de Régates de Antibes – Juan les Pins, will line up in front of Antibes at around 11.30 a.m.. Three races are scheduled.
