Paralympic Sailing Competition NOR released

The 2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition Notice of Race has now been released. The event is set to take place in Weymouth, Great Britain from Wednesday 22 August-Sunday 9 September.

The Notice of Race includes details on the Rules, Identification and Advertising, Eligibility and Entry, Qualification, Accreditation, Competition Format, Schedule, Venue, Courses, Equipment and Equipment Inspection, Keelboat Restrictions, Personal Flotation Devices, Classification, Cameras and Electronic Equipment, Radio Communication, Prizes, Doping Control and much more.

As stated in the IFDS Functional Classification System, the rules which determine the make up of the crew is as follows:

Single-Person Keelboat (2.4mR)- The sailor must fulfill the criteria of minimal disability.

Two-Person Keelboat (SKUD18)

1. At least one of the crew shall be female.

2. One sailor shall be classified as TPA (Two-Person format Classification A), which is defined as either:

(a) The sailor is rated as FCS 1 or FCS 2 in the FCS 2009 (IFDS Functional Classification System and Procedures Manual 2009-2012)

or

(b) If scoring above FCS 2 on the FCS 2009, the sailor shall have an Upper Limb Functional Anatomical (ULFA) score in FCS 2009 of 80 points or less in both arms combined, together with a loss of 30 points in the better arm.

3. The other sailor shall be classified as TPB (Two Person System Classification B), which is defined as having at least minimal disability.

Three-Person Keelboat (Sonar):

Points are given from one (most disabled) to seven (minimum disability) for the individual sailor. The total crew is allowed a maximum of fourteen (14) points. No sailing advantage is given to a crew with a total of less than fourteen points.
