Of raised saloons and cruising yachts- Presenting the Swan 80RS

by Jennifer Hall on 18 Apr 2013
Nautor's Swan
Nautor’s Swan, recognised internationally for prestige and elegance as a world leader in luxury sailing yachts, is ecstatic to present the new Swan 80RS (raised saloon), the ultimate cruising yacht. A sophisticated, high performance Swan exquisitely crafted in Finland, the new Swan 80RS, with its sleek raised saloon, completes the already established and successful 80 foot range. Designed by German Frers, the Swan 80RS is the ideal choice for those with a passion for long distance cruising in style.

With knowledge gained from close to half a century of design and build experience, Nautor’s Swan has incorporated state of the art materials into the technology of the Swan 80RS. The light, performing hull uses unidirectional fibres resulting in a strong and stiff structure. The yacht will utilise Sprint™ laminating technology, the same method used for as the Swan 60 and the flush deck version of the Swan 80. However, the choices of the reinforcements are optimised for a high technology cruising yacht.

Above deck, the Swan 80RS offers a well thought out sheltered cockpit, which enhances the safety aspects of the yacht especially under challenging offshore conditions and provides plenty of natural light for the spacious interior. The aft cockpit is designed around the needs of the helmsman, with plenty of room to manoeuvre. A sunbathing area is located on the bridge between the aft cockpit and guest cockpit. This progressive deck layout has been developed based on the experience gained from this Swan’s successful predecessor the Swan 82, which has been further optimized for long distance cruising.

Down below the stylish, central living area provides the perfect place for entertaining or relaxing, the main saloon is open and inviting, with an additional lounge area on the port side. The Swan 80RS has four comfortable cabins making it ideal for cruising with family and friends. The owner’s cabin offers two large hull windows providing extensive natural light, this is continued into the midship cabin which also includes two hull windows, as well as the large deck house windows around the whole top-deck to create a luminous environment. The crew accommodation is separated from the guest cabins in this well-appointed layout. The ease of access to the engine room is also a welcome feature, as is the dinghy ‘garage’.

The standard draft of the Swan 80RS is 4m, but there is also the option of a shallow draft keel for coastal cruising to inviting shallow harbours. This new model embodies the spirit of Swan and the ethos of Nautor, which is world renowned for unrivalled build quality.

Luca Lucheschi, Commercial Director of Nautor’s Swan, is proud to be presenting the Swan 80RS this spring: 'The new Swan 80RS is indicative of Nautor’s commitment to cruising, long distances in particular, without any compromises in terms of performance and style. The concept and design for the Swan 80RS is based on in-depth market research, including valuable feedback from our customers and it is designed for true sailors. The Swan 80RS combines elegance and leading edge build technology, which is unique for a cruising yacht, especially of this size.'

Is it a stick? Is it a tree? No it’s Supercat! (Pt. I)
You won’t have to venture far to find someone who believes a few Lagoon catamarans have been whacked by the Ugly Stick. Just like most of the Ssang Yong’s out there, you won’t have to venture too far to find someone who believes a few of the Lagoon catamarans have been whacked once or twice by the Ugly Stick. Rather, for some they may even feel that they have indeed had a brush in with the whole tree.
