New sponsor for Auckland Regatta plus other changes

It's hard to come by a good sponsor in this day and age and to have Jack Tar sign on as Auckland Regatta's major sponsor is about as good as it gets.

The waterfront pub at North Wharf sums up everything our Regatta is about - food, fun, adventure and good times and we know Pete Parkin and his team will inject new energy and fun into the Auckland Regatta 2014.

Planning has started in earnest for the 2014 Jack Tar Auckland Regatta, from 21-23 March, and the Committee is looking forward to another great event.

Based on the feedback you gave us after the Auckland Regatta 2013 you wanted for the A division and possibly the B division less windward leewards and more short harbour courses – we’ll see what we can do!

You also said you struggle to find crew for the three days and the Race Management and Regatta Committee are committed to helping with that. One of the proposals is a start at maybe mid-afternoon on the Friday for a Harbour Course/ Rum Race type race. We want you to have fun during the regatta and with this type of race we may add some quirky details to inject some laughter into your day. After all this is a fun sport – even if you are all highly competitive!

We also received some great comments about the beach party and are pleased to announce that the Beach Party will definitely be going ahead – Motuihe Island has been booked and the NZ Multihull Yacht Club have agreed to host the party!

The Regatta Committee has had expressions of interest from the:

Farr 1020 Association (& National Championships)
Farr MRX Pacific Challenge
Ross 930 Association
Young 88 Association
Open Multihull (& National Championships)
8.5 Multihull (& National Championships)
Elliott 5.9
Open A, B, C & D divisions

We'd would also like to invite the Production/cruising boats join in for Harbour Courses/ no extras, along with the Stewart 34 and others and we'll be issuing invitations soon.

www.aucklandregatta.org.nz is our website. We are confirming more sponsors for the regatta and will have more to tell you soon. Full steam ahead to the most exciting regatta in Auckland!
