2014 NSW 12 Foot Skiff State Championship - This Saturday the 29th of November sees the NSW 12ft Skiff fleet contest the State Championships. Skiffs from Lane Cove, Abbotsford and The Sydney Flying Squadron with greet the staters with the event returning to its spiritual home the Sydney Flying Squadron for the first time in five years. With early weather forecasts predicting a pumping North Easters on the Harbour the racing with make for great viewing!
The event will be hotly contested with the results of the State’s defining the makeup of the Australian Team for January's Interdominion Championships. Garde (Brett Hobson and Brad Phillips) the current title holders have shown good early season form winning the Parramatta River Championship last month to once again be favourites for the event. They are unlikely to have it all their own way with strong competition coming the experienced team on Lincoln Crowne and Company (Jono Temple and Richard Jones), Bigfoot Custom Trapeze Hanresses (Murray Press and Scott Langham) and well as the new Sydney Sailmakers team (Nick Press and Andrew Stevenson).
The 12ft Skiffs also welcomes back some notable names to the class with Round the World Yachtswoman and Sydney Hobart winner Adrienne Cahalan teaming up with Brett Phillip aboard Chapman High Performance contest the season. Also previous State, Australian and Interdominion championship winning crew Alex Johnson joins Adam Forbes on Maersk Line to form a formidable combination.
