Maersk Line ANZAC Regatta - Big breeze doesnt deter Thurlow Fisher

by Auckland Skiff League on 26 Apr 2015 A 20-27 knot North East breeze greeted the fleet for Day 3 of the Maersk Line 18ft skiff ANZAC regatta.

The first race windward/leewards were competed between Orakei and a laid top mark above North Head. The conditions however in the vicinity of North Head proved treacherous with a steep and mixed sea state making for a tough top mark rounding. The race committee then made the decision to move the race course between Mechanics Bay and Devonport for Race 7 and 8 in the more sheltered waters.

Thurlow Fisher Lawyers had a blinder of a day claiming a 2, 1, 1, to extend their overall lead going into the last day. Crew work was the order of the day as Thurlow Fisher was able to feed off mistakes from the kiwi boats in the short course racing.

C-Tech was the best of the rest after winning Race 6 and claiming a third and fifth in the other. The four-man crew again showed dominating upwind speed and impressive boat handling considering the limited time sailing together and the fact there is four of them onboard.

Yamaha, Aon Racing and Knight Frank all had a mixed day with some good and bad moments throughout the day's races. Yamaha also claimed victory for the coveted miners award with a great nose dive right on the finish line for race 8.
