San Francisco based videographer, John Navas, was on hand to record today's Round Robin 4, Race 1 between Luna Rossa and Emirates Team New Zealand.
The video opens with some sequences from Oracle Team USA, doing some practice runs and roundings followed by foiling gybes.
Oracle Team USA's Boat 1 is followed by Emirates Team NZ doing the same set of manoeuvres.
Later in the race, off Virtual Eye, it was possible to deduce that the distance lost in a foiling gybe at the same point was 200 metres from an AC72 that was able to stay filing in the gybe, and one that belly-flopped in the gybe. The principla speed losses being speed lost in the time itself, and the slower speed build out of the mark.
In this self-commentated video taken a vantage point bayside in San Francisco, John Navas gives a different perspective on the race from the televised product.
For those intending to catch a Louis Vuitton Cup or America's Cup Race, this video gives you a good idea of the view you can expect to see from on shore.
