The 2014 JJ Giltian 18ft Skiff Championship, which will be sailed on Sydney Harbour from 1-9 March, will be supported by Sydney City Marine the Australian 18 Footers League today announced.

Mr. Brenton Fischer, Director of Sydney City Marine said: 'Sydney City Marine is honoured to be associated with an event with the long history and prestige of the JJ Giltinan Championship. It is an ideal way for us to show our support for not only sailing as a sport and industry, but also for the sailors themselves whose commitment and passion is something that we all admire'.

John Winning, President of the Australian 18 Footers League said: 'We are extremely happy to have the support of Sydney City Marine, which is highly respected as one of the most professional and environmentally sound yacht maintenance yards in Australia'.

The Sydney City Marine support of the 2014 JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff Championship is an acknowledgement of the 75 years history of the world’s greatest 18 Footer championship.

The company began its association with ‘The League’ this season when it sponsored David Witt’s return to the skiffs.

David first began sailing in the class as a 17-year-old, and was a part of the first UK team to win the championship (Tim Robinson’s Rockport in 1999).

His aim now will be to try and win it again for Sydney City Marine.

Mr. John Hickey, Customer Sales Manager of Sydney City Marine, met with John Winning to shake hands on the arrangement.

With only three weeks left before the championship, the League can confirm 34 entries from six nations will contest what should be a wonderful regatta.

'Sydney City Marine is honoured to be associated with an event with the long history and prestige of the JJ Giltinan Championship. It is an ideal way for us to show our support for not only sailing as a sport and industry, but also for the sailors themselves whose commitment and passion is something that we all admire.'
