Sail-World was on the water for the second day of the Auckland 18ft Skiff Championships, sailed off the Auckland Sailing Club, with two windward leeward course races, and a harbour race being sailed today.

The Interislander Optimist Challenge hits record numbers in Picton
The annual Interislander Optimist Challenge is still going from strength-to-strength. The annual Interislander Optimist Challenge is still going from strength-to-strength. In its ninth year it beat last year’s records again. Last weekend the Picton waters were the race course for 114 Open Fleet Optimist sailors, a 38 strong Starling fleet and 50 Optimists in the Green and Rainbow fleet.

At the recent NZ Championships the 3.7 class trialled a smaller Radial sail for lighter weight sailors At the recent NZ Championships the 3.7 class trialled a smaller Radial sail for lighter weight sailors and this proved successful with positive feedback on the concept. This allows sailors in the 50+kg bracket to contemplate sailing a 3.7 whereas previously they would struggle with the full sail, especially in a stronger breeze
