Hartley 16 North Island Champs goes down to the wire

by Wayne Holdt on 5 Nov 2012
Close Racing - Hartley 16 North Islands Wayne Holdt

The Hartley 16 class North Island champs, hosted by the Ngaroto Boating Club came down to a tie break between eventual winner Rumbo sailed by Wayne Holdt and Jeremy Pritt and defending North Island champion Stratos Simon Holdt and Nathan McAthur.

Both boats hail from New Plymouth.

Twelve boats from New Plymouth, Napier, Whangarei, Te Awamutu and Auckland competed in the regatta in at times gusty conditions which kept everyone one their toes.

Third place went to Napier’s Tickled Pink sailed by Paul De Munk and Thijs Calkoen with current national champion Pronto Gareth Insley from Auckland who teamed up with local Hartley 16 sailor Rob Greenwood in fourth.

Again the hospitality was excellent, a big thanks to the members of the Ngaroto club and also race officer Danny Padman. This regatta is a great social event as well as the tight racing and was a great shake down before the National Champs in New Plymouth 16-19 January 2013.

The Hartley 16 Class association has just finished an upgrade on their constitution and class rules along with full results from the weekend can be found on the Hartley16 class website at www.sportsground.co.nz/hartley16class
