For Sail-World.com, the largest sailing news network, growth continues

by Sail-World.com on 17 Feb 2012
Its not just iPads, low cost Tablets have dramatically expanded Internet access - they are read on the train, on the bus, in the smallest rooms, while watching TV MarineBusiness-World.com . http://www.marinebusiness-world.com
Sail-World.com is the largest sailing news network in the world, delivering content online via 17 sites world-wide.

In 2011 Sail-world.com had a total of 2,190,891 unique viewers, 5,403,861 sessions, 34,187,918 page views, 559,696,525 hits and served 7852.02 GB of data.

This represents a 20% increase in traffic over the previous year but an astounding 45% increase in page views and 47% in gigabytes served and a 25% increase in time on site. (the watching of sailing video is a major fact in that large uptick)

The Sail-World audience is commonly spending three to four times longer on Sail-World than the audiences on any other marine site world-wide.

It is interesting to see the audience shifts. Back in 2006 Apple devices, in those days just Macs, were 3% of the Sail-World audience, now iPhones, iPads and Macs are used by more than 30% of the Sail-World January 2012 audience.

Sail-World has always had a very strong emphasis on local news in every market since its launch in 1997 and that appears to have been a major key to its successes.

The parent company is TetraMedia and Publisher Rob Kothe says 'We knew from day one that a single website could never justify the technical and news resources needed to satisfy the marine news reader, who wanted a blend of local news and key international stories. To do that requires an international network of regional sites and that’s what we have built.

'We have spent a lot of time and energy ensuring we have very detailed feedback systems so we know just what our audience wants. We know exactly what our subscribers are reading and we've worked hard over many years to deliver what they enjoy most. While we starting with racing sailing, our cruising audience world-wide is now huge.

'TetraMedia operates the largest online marine news network in the world with regional sites Sail-World UK, Sail-World Europe, Sail-World Asia, Sail-World New Zealand, Sail-World USA, Sail-World Canada, Sail-World Australia Racing, Sail-World Cruising International, Sail-World Australia/NZ Cruising, Powerboat-World, FishingBoating-World.com and MarineBusiness-World.

Each week more than 260,000 newsletters are sent to Sail-World, Powerboat-World and MarineBusiness-World subscribers.

TetraMedia publishes around 1400 stories each month across the group and now delivers local and international news to 145,000 newsletter readers with around half a million visitor sessions each month. Around the world, there is not another marine news source that delivers such a combination.

TetraMedia has invested heavily in innovative online solutions. It uses geo-location technology that allows advertisers to advertise in just one region or around the world, with multiple ads being delivered that can change on a daily basis for each advertiser.

Kothe said today ‘With Geo-location we are expecting to be add at least another dozen sites to our group over the next year.’
