The 17th annual Etchells Australasian Winter Championships are coming up fast, Trevor Martin, the Mooloolaba Etchells fleet captain, said yesterday there has been an excellent flow of entries for this years event.
'We have almost 30 entries in the system now and we are expecting to have more than 40 on the line come the June 6-9th regatta.

Trevor Martin continued 'It will be another Who's Who of Australian sailing, with sixteen different skippers having won the title with no repeat winners, it’s a wide open event.'
John Bertrand will be on the Mooloolaba start line hoping he might win his first winter title too. Bertrand´s Mooloolaba crew is Billy Browne and Jake Newman
Bertrand commented this week ´'We're looking forward to giving this regatta a real crack. It’s a great event, I´ve never won it. There are always tricky conditions to sort out. Also the Winters will be a good lead-in to the Nationals in November at Southport.
‘I've sailed with Billy over the years on the Two Saints and Magpie with great success. He is a highly competitive character both in the world of Etchells but also in AFL football years ago. Young Jake Newman reminds me of Tom Slingsby in the early days...excellent in terms of wind on water. '
For those Southern visitors competing at Mooloolaba who would like to stay on for the QLD State Championships on the 5-7th October and the Nationals at Southport in November there is free boat storage at RQYS.
