Dent makes another mark on Paper Tiger Trophy

by Rowdy Leatham on 25 Nov 2012
Richard Dent - 2012 Ngaroto Regatta Champion - 2012-13 Paper Tiger North Island Freshwater Series Ross Wrenn

Richard Dent sailing Ultra High Modulus and representing the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club has won the 2012 Ngaroto Paper Tiger Regatta over the weekend of 24-25 November. Dent puts his name on the trophy once again after winning it five years ago and finishing a close second for the past two years.

Dent produced a dominant performance in the highly rated 17 boat fleet which included 8 past or present New Zealand Team members as well as 2 past National Champions.

Posting a scorecard which included three wins, a second and a third, left Dent 5 points ahead of Mark Bell (Ponsonby Cruising Club) in second who finished one point ahead of last years winner Doug Fergusson (Howick Sailing Club).

Five races were completed over the two days with Saturday being a day of changeable Sou-westerlies with a strength of around 5 to 10 knots. ?Race 5 was sailed on Sunday afternoon in a westerly of 5 knots making for some tight racing on the confines of the lake.

Racing was tight throughout the regatta with multiple lead changes in every race.
The short leg races made for some intense racing and meant that everyone got plenty of tacking and mark rounding practice.

A huge thanks to the team at Ngaroto Sailing Club for their magnificent hospitality and race management, it is always an amazing place to visit!

The Paper Tigers are back in action again this coming weekend at the Sir Peter Blake Regatta hosted by Torbay Sailing Club.
