The 3.7 Class National Championship is to be held March 7-9 at the Bay of Islands Yacht Club at Waitangi in Northland.

Over 21 yachts are expected to enter. The defending champion is Derek Snow of Wakatere.

The class has developed a ranking list based on the GP travelling series of events around the north island. Top ranked sailor is Mark O'Brien (Hamilton Yacht Club), Derek is ranked second and Carey Shelley of Richmond Yacht Club is ranked third.

Those three sailors have raced 79 times in the GP series and it looks as if it will be a very close contest. The closest group of chasing sailors includes Oliver Hawkley, John Elliott, Hamish Hall-Smith and Holly Hamlin who all have potential to win races. Hamish has steadily improved all season and Holly is always very fast in the light.

The forecast is for 20 knots on Saturday, but reducing over the weekend. Final races wrap up on Monday followed by Prizegiving.

Kim Admore is the Race Officer and the event is being combined with the Starling Traveller Series and 2015 BoIYC InterSchools Regatta.

Event T Shirts are available online ($25) while stocks last. Incl NZ Website
