In 1990, while drawing a daily MONSTA cartoon strip for Auckland's evening newspaper, Mark O'Brien penned a series on the Whitbread fleet arriving.
By the next edition he was the great race's official cartoonist, and travelled the globe with the fleet, doing another lap as cartoonist for the Swedish Match team in 1997/98
He and his MONSTA character have covered the last five America's Cups, as challenger Luna Rossa's team cartoonist in Valencia in 2007, and then drawing for Cup holders Alinghi from 2008 to 2010 .
Mark drew a daily cartoon at Hamilton Island Race Week in 2007 and 2008, and is back this year to draw the 30th Anniversary. Here is Mark´s first 2013 cartoon
