Airlie Beach Race Week - Win a sailing lesson with Jessica Watson

by Whitsunday Sailing Club on 30 Jul 2012
16 year old circumnavigator Jessica Watson sails back into Sydney Harbour NSW Maritime http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au
Queenslander Jessica Watson has made a name for herself as Australia’s most famous sailing teenager and was named Young Australian of the Year in 2011. She made world headlines when she successfully sailed solo through the Southern Ocean and around the globe at the young age of 16. She returned to a hero’s welcome and a movie star existence in Australia – where she is adored by the Australian public, even those who don’t sail.

If you are a keen sailor and under the age of 18, you could win the chance to have a private sailing lesson with Jessica Watson at this year’s Telcoinabox Airlie Beach Race Week. Jessica will be available to meet the public from 3pm on Monday 13 August at the Whitsunday Sailing Club and then she will take the lucky winner for a sailing lesson from 4pm.

It’s easy to enter. All you have to do is drop your entry into the Whitsunday Sailing Club or email it to sailing(at)whitsundaysailingclub.com.au. Please mark your entry 'Win a sailing lesson with Jessica Watson' and include your name, date of birth, phone number and contact details. The winning entry will be drawn by Jessica Watson at the Opening Night of Telcoinabox Airlie Beach Race Week on Thursday 9 August. The private session will be held at 4pm on Monday 13 August. Winner will need to be over seven years and parental permission will be required.

This is the first time Jessica Watson has raced in this event and she says, ‘The Airlie Beach Race Week has always been one of those iconic Queensland regattas that I have always wanted to participate in. Winter is such a beautiful time to be sailing on the Queensland coast and Queensland’s Season of Sailing is the perfect opportunity for everyone to experience it.’
