49er sails 120nm Coastal Classic - Images from the long ride

by Burling Media on 26 Oct 2009
Off TiriTiri Island soon after the start - Burling Tuke 49er ride in the 2009 Coastal Classic Burling Media

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke completed the 120nm Coastal Classic course sailing alongside the top competitors. Although Alfa Romeo was long gone, the 49er crew battled with the 50fters, leading this group at Cape Brett, but losing their lead after their second pitchpole of the trip. We present images taken from their support boat..

Peak speed was over 20kts and the 120nm trip took around nine and a half hours with four capsizes and two pitchpolings. A great effort.
