18ft skiffs- Steinlager ANZAC Regatta - Video from Saturday

Top sailing video cameraman, Bruce Adams, was on the water to capture racing on the penultimate day of the 18ft skiff regatta staged over ANZAC weekend in Auckland (NZ)and sponsored by Steinlager.

Bruce Adams is the longtime video cameraman, working with TVNZ's equally longtime yachting reporter, Martin Tasker, but because Bruce is on the other end of the lens, he doesn't quite enjoy the same profile. A keen sailor himself, Bruce is renowned for getting into some fairly difficult situations to get spectacular video, that is so often shown on prime time news for Television NZ, and which does so much for the profile of the sport in NZ.

This video - we have all the raw video feed - was shot from a small RIB, with the 18's sailing in winds of around 20kts plus. From there the 12 minutes of footage gets edited down to the 90 second clips we are so used to seeing on ONE News, complete with Martin Tasker's inimitable commentary style. http://tvnz.co.nz/sailing-news/anzac-sporting-bond-strong-in-water-video-5419362!Click_here to see the prime time news item one ONE News Saturday April 27, 2013 (preceded by a short ISAF World Sailing Cup report.

Three 18ft skiffs made the trip across the Tasman, which was won by Thurlow Fisher (AUS), helmed by Michael Coxon. Second was C-Spar (NZL) (Alex Vallings), and third Yamaha (NZL) (David McDiarmid).

The 18ft class has been undergoing a revival for a number of years in Auckland. this year new boats have been launched. A big NZ representation crossed the Tasman in March to compete in the JJ Giltinan Trophy in a fleet of 30 boats. Twelve boats competed in the ANZAC regatta, and a big fleet will travel from Australia, New Zealand and Europe, to take on the US 18fter International in San Francisco in September co-incident with the America's Cup.
