NSW Secondary Schools Teams Racing Championship - Scots lead

by Daniel Williams on 2 Apr 2011
2 - NSW Secondary School Teams Racing Championship David Price
Day 1 of the NSW Secondary Schools Teams Racing Championship started bright and early as ten teams from nine schools arrived at 8.00am to register, sign on and start to rig boats for a 10.30am warning signal.

Unfortunately the wind or lack of wind was not kind this morning and Race Officer Col Chidgey and team hoisted the AP waiting for the breeze to fill.

The breeze started to fill and an eager Race committee and sailors all hit the water hoping to get the regatta underway. 20 minutes later, without a start the sailors were sent back to Woollahra SC to sit and wait again.

Racing finally began at 1.10pm when a light nor ‘easterly arrived. Races have been very close, short, and exciting, with the turn-around time between races quick.

The Race Committee managed to get in 30 races, which is a fantastic result given the light conditions.

The Scots College and Abbotsleigh are leading the Championship both schools on 5 points with Cranbrook and Riverview close behind on 4 points.

Racing continues tomorrow morning at 9.00am.

Yachting NSW is proudly supported by Nautilus Marine, Steve Jarvin Motors, Tohatsu, Gill, GME and Communities NSW
