Monsoon Cup qualifying Day 1 - Team Gilmour update

by Team Gilmour on 27 Nov 2013
DG down but TG not out! - Monsoon Cup 2013 Team Gilmour
Team Gilmour (AUS) reports on the first day of qualifying for the AWMRT Monsoon Cup:

Yesterday we woke up rearing to go but David was feeling under the weather. The teams were held ashore under postponement while the wind filled in. The breeze refused to cooperate and racing remained under postponement while the opening ceremony took place. Throughout all this David's condition worsened and by the time the ProAm race was completed and it was time for us to race, he was quite ill.

The only option was to get Dave to hospital and on and IV drip to replace his fluids while bowman Pete Nicholas moved back to the helm and the team brought on Nick Davis to fill in on the bow.

Pete, no novice to the helm did well and won two out of three starts but was not able to convert these into race wins. A very close race with World number one Taylor Canfield saw the team winning the whole race until the last downwind when we gybed away too early and gave Canfield the opportunity to luff and carry us to layline.

David is now feeling better after getting some fluids and rest and we are looking forward to getting back out there for the rest of qualifying, with our full team.

Results thus far:
Pierre-Antoine Morvan (FRA) Vannes Agglo Sailing Team - 3-0
Taylor Canfield (ISV) USone - 3-0
Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Stena Sailing Team - 2-1
