New Zealand skipper Adam Minoprio and his BlackMatch racing crew have started the defence of their World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) title with Match Race France running from April 6-11 at Yacht Club Pointe Rouge in Marseille.

Defending champion skipper Adam Minoprio and his BlackMatch Racing team from New Zealand are in the middle of the pack after Day 2 two at Match Race France, the opening event of yachting’s World Match Racing Tour.

Racing in the tricky Bay of Marseille, the Kiwi crew has three wins and two losses, after another shortened day of competition.

After a slow start to the morning with racing postponed, the sailors were let out onto the race course as the wind clocked in at four to eight knots for the remainder of the day. Racing again in the Bay of Marseille was moved very close in-shore with excellent spectator appeal.

Ben Ainslie (Great Britain) TEAMORIGIN and Torvar Mirsky (Australia) Mirsky Racing Team are both on top of the WMRT leader board with 11 flights now completed overall. Ainslie has more wins than any other skipper so far this week with a current score of 5-1 and Mirsky is at 4-0.

But Minopori is not the only big-name yet to make his mark. After two days, Bertrand Pace (France) Aleph Sailing is down 1-5, Peter Gilmour (Australia) Yanmar Racing is 2-6, and Francesco Bruni (Italy) Azzurra Racing is 3-5.
