Audi MedCup Region of Sardinia Trophy 2011, being held between 19th and 24th July, is the third regatta out of five events in the Audi MedCup Circuit.
Having last night put their faith in today’s Mistral, Jochen Schuemann and Seb Col, have their wishes fulfilled today as the powerful NWíly breeze appears to be building as per the forecast.
With a final day lead of 8.5 points at the Audi MedCup's Region of Sardinia Trophy, the best situation for the Franco-German team, in terms of securing the regatta win, would be for there to be one race or no races today.
Two are scheduled but the prediction is that by the time the second would be due to start the wind pressure will be getting towards the top of the range.
And of course there is the long term view for the Audi Sailing Team powered by All4One, that they need races, the more the better, to continue their ascent of the Audi MedCup Circuit leader board.
Racing is scheduled with the start sequence beginning at midday, with up to two races programmed for both classes.
In the 40 Series the six points lead for Iberdrola Sailing Team means the Spanish team are all but home and dry for their third successive regatta win.
Marc Lagesse (RSA), navigator, Container (FRA):
'We have a really windy forecast today, hopefully we'll be able to do both races. Personally, I think that we might only be able to get one in. It's been a pretty windy regatta, quite fun, although we have had ups and downs. It’s been a tough week, but we are pretty happy. Maybe we are not that happy with the job on the scoreboard, but overall, points wise, we are doing good. This is a five event championship, so that's important.'
Adrian Stead (GBR), strategist, Quantum Racing (USA):
'We know that today there's going to be 20-25 knots, maybe a little more. The question is when are we going to have these conditions and if we are going to be able to race once or twice. All4One have got themselves in a very good position to win this regatta, but with two more races to go there's still time to get back to them. They have certainly found the way to sail their boat. For us this is a 45 race series and we have to also think about Container, Azzurra and Bribón now, who are sailing very well. Like I've said before, anyone can win a race at this point'.
