Audi MedCup Region of Murcia Trophy being held in Cartagena, Spain between 23rd and 28th August, is the fourth regatta out of five events in the Audi MedCup Circuit.

The Audi MedCup Circuit has become fully attuned to Aussie and Kiwi accents over the years but the Region of Murcia Trophy will welcome the first ever fully Australian team when 'Soto 40 Team Australia' line up to race the Class president’s 'Patagonia' at the popular venue in the south of Spain.

A team of eleven Australians, mostly from Western Australia, will head to Cartagena. The team are joining the 40 Series, racing in the new Soto 40 One Design which has been an enormous success in this debut year, guaranteeing a very bright and promising future into 2012 and beyond.

The all-Australian effort will be sponsored by Perth winemaker, Mulberry Estate. The sponsor will also be with the team in Murcia, making some initial research into doing a full campaign for 2012. Brent Fowler has been working with Longitude Yachts (the Australian dealer for the Soto 40 Class) to get an Australian team competing at the Audi MedCup Circuit.

'The racing doesn't get any better than this. Warm weather, the local Levant wind and challenging seas and outstanding facilities, the Audi MedCup really knows how to turn on a good show. With the live web TV coverage of each race we've already seen how fast these boats go and hope we get the chance to chase down leader of the series 'Iberdrola' when we get there,' comments Fowler. But he is under no illusions how fierce the competition has been and how hard it will be for the team to compete at the highest level in their first foray on the Audi MedCup Circuit.

'This isn't about a one regatta hit, but we hope a real taster for the future. We will have our sponsors from Mulberry Estate with us and researching the possibility of staging a full campaign for 2012.'

The team arrives three days before the start of the Cartagena regatta to spend as much time on the Soto 40 as possible.

'We've all spent a lot of time racing similar yachts but we're very excited about learning the ropes on this new world standard for fast OD Class racing. We look forward to putting in a solid effort and becoming involved in this amazing Circuit. It's half-way around the world away from Australia so this isn't just a idea we came up with overnight!'.

Of course the Australian team will feel at home among the Kiwi and Aussies on the circuit including the likes of multiple America's Cup trimmer Mal Parker (AUS) off Ngoni, and round the world racer Luke Molloy (AUS/ TP52 Synergy).
