by RYA on 6 Mar 2006
Skandia Team GBR 2008 – the British sailing team in training for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 – has today announced the signing of Marlow Ropes as Official Supplier and Exclusive Team Ropes Partner.

This team partnership was announced at the RYA Dinghy Sailing Show in Association with Yachts & Yachting, which was being held at the Alexandra Palace in London over the weekend of 4-5 March 2006.

Great Britain is the world's top Olympic sailing nation, having topped the medal table at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. Skandia Team GBR is recognised today as one of the UK ’s most successful sporting teams in terms of medal results.

Stephen Park, Olympic Team Manager welcomed Marlow Ropes to the team as an Official Supplier: 'Marlow Ropes have been a supporter of the team for a number of years, helping both the support team and the sailors directly. We are looking forward to continuing to work closely together on rope technology development and supply, and to ensuring that we have the best quality product on board our race boats.'

The Marlow brand has earned an outstanding reputation based on products tried and tested in the world’s harshest environments. Marlow is committed to developing and delivering the ultimate range of rope products to suit all marine requirements. Paul Honess, Marketing & Yachting Sales Manager for Marlow Ropes quoted “We are delighted to renew our association with the team as we see it as being one of our most rewarding partnerships. The Marlow Excel Dinghy range was developed in association with the team and is now one of our most successful ranges selling world wide. We are looking forward to taking the next step with the team in developing rope technology and using new fibres.

Marlow Ropes will support Skandia Team GBR through the supply of products to the overall team as well as supporting directly six sailors in the Olympic Development Squad per year, to be announced every two months. The first sailors to be supported through this scheme will be Luke Patience and Chris Crube in the 470, winners of the 2005 ranking series.
