MAGIC SAILING DESTINATION VOID OF WIND
by Ian Grant on 19 Sep 2000
Sydney Harbour recognised as one of the best sailing destinations on the International circuit was blanketed in another fickle light wind system today.
The zephyr strength breeze which veered between South West and North East made it impossible for the race officials controlling the Olympic Tornado catamaran and Mistral Sailboard classes to set a fair sailing course.
Wind velocities varied between 2 and 4 knots while the crews waited patiently in the hot sun for more than two hours hoping for a fair sailing wind to settle.
The fleets were still drifting on an unusually placid Sydney Harbour as the officials 'prayed' for a stable wind to prevail , unfortunately their prayers remained unanswered while the fleets entered the third hour of the endurance testing waiting game.
