Louis Vuitton Cup - Round Robin - Race Day 6 - Luna Rossa Vs Artemis Racing (DNS)
Today Luna Rossa Challenge raced alone for the second time in the Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robin; its scheduled opponent, Artemis Racing, is still preparing its AC72, expected to be ready by the end of July.
Due to the extremely light wind conditions, the Italian team sailed the 5-legs race course in 43 minutes, 6 seconds, at an average speed of 17 knots, reaching a maximum speed of 26.37 knots.
After the race, Chris Draper, helmsman of Luna Rossa Challenge, declared: 'It was disappointing that the wind was so light; we could not develop our boat’s potential properly and get the time that we need racing around the course. But we may have to face similar conditions in the future and it was, nevertheless, a good light wind practice.'
Luna Rossa Challenge will race again unopposed on Saturday July 20th and will race against Emirates Team New Zealand on Sunday July 21st.
Today’s crew for Luna Rossa Challenge was: Max Sirena (skipper and pitman), Francesco Bruni (tactician), David Carr (pitman/grinder), Pierluigi de Felice (trimmer), Simone de Mari (primary grinder), Cris Draper (helmsman), Xabi Fernandez (wing trimmer), Nick Hutton (bowman), Lele Marino (wing grinder), Marco Montis (freestyler) and Wade Morgan (hydraulic grinder).
