London Olympics- Images of Weymouth - Womens Windsurfer at Mid-point

by Richard Gladwell on 3 Aug 2012
August 1, 2012 - Weymouth, England - Marina Alabau (ESP) leads the Womens Windsurfing (RS:X) Richard Gladwell www.photosport.co.nz

The Womens Windsurfer event (RS:X) reached a mid-point, with six races sailed, with another four to go, plus the Medal race, counting for double points.

Today came the news that the International Sailing Federation is to be legally challenged over its decision to drop Windsurfing from the 2016 Olympics.

The Spanish Federation President, who later admitted to being confused on the issue of the voting, and voted for the Kiteboard instead of the Windsurfer, in which Spain is very strong.

Spain's Marina Alabau looks set to rub salt into a very raw and open wound, and has put together a very strong series to lead the regatta overall by five points. She has scored three wins and two seconds so far in the regatta.

Sailing in Portland Harbour she placed seond and fifth today - her worst performance.
