Liz Earle Ladies Day at Skandia Cowes Week

by Sue Pelling/CWL on 7 Aug 2008
The good news is, there should be more wind today for Liz Earle Ladies Day. Still from the south-west, the wind should increase 15kts with gusts and it could increase more as the day progresses.

Chris Tibbs, weather experts says there could be a bit of rain under the heavy black clouds this morning but generally it will brighten up with temperature in the 18-20°C region.

Racing starts at 09:45 this morning with the Extreme 40 class and the Laser SB3s, racing for the John Minns Challenge Cup, set off at their usual time of 1005. Class Zero IRC are racing for New York YC Challenge Cup today starting at 1030 and it will be interesting to see if Niklas Zennstrom's Ran can make it another race win to add to his already impressive results of four wins and a fourth. He's currently leading by 8pts.

Elsewhere at Skandia Cowes Week today there'll be plenty of celebrities wandering about so keep an eye out for Joe Worsley - England International & Wasps rugby player – adventurer Bear Grylls, and Jodie Kidd.

At 1700 at the Waterside, on the High Street, there's the Fashion Show - the Sugar Collection by Sue Bonham supported by Henri Lloyd - which will focus on beach wear and evening wear together with Henri Lloyd technical clothing.

The Vulcan aerial display is at 1825 and 10 minutes later it's the Blades aerobatic display.
