Krys Ocean Race - Final approach towards Scilly Islands

Krys Ocean Race, the MOD70 Multi One Championship 2012-14 first event, is drawing to a close. The winner shall be known tonight off the entrance of Brest Harbour. After precisely five days of mad racing across the Atlantic from New York City, three big MOD70 trimarans are making this morning their final approach towards the Scilly Islands, last mark of the race to be rounded.

Spindrift Racing and Yann Guichard, after disappearing yesterday evening in 'Ghost mode' reappeared in the rankings just around midnight, with no apparent change in their lead. It is only in the wee hours this morning that they've started to slow down a bit while approaching a small high pressure system south of Ireland. Guichard’s advance has dropped about 20 miles to Josse (Groupe Edmond de Rothschild) and Desjoyeaux (Foncia). With 200 miles to go, he’s still ahead by over respectively 30 and 50 miles. Nothing is done yet but Spindrift Racing is a strong leader with fantastic sailing abilities. Guichard is a former Olympic racer and sure knows his stuff when it comes to securing the right place on the water. The Westerly winds shall strengthen as Spindrift Racing enters the English Channel. Another mad rush towards Ouessant and Brittany awaits the exhausted six men crew who should reach the finish line late in the afternoon, after a stupendous five days crossing Spindrift Racing website
