Sail-World was on the water this afternoon, courtesy of RNZYS mark boat, to capture the start of the International Paints Auckland - Tauranga Race.

The start was posponed for six hours due to onshore winds gusting over 60kts, by the start they were down to 15kts in the shelter of the inner Waitemata harbour, but further offshore wind gusts of 35kts were recorded. Fortunately the breeze had swung north making an easier first leg to Cape Colville, at the entrance to the Hauraki Gulf.

Of the 34 original entries, 14 had elected to either not start, or had retired due to equipment failure or sea sickness.
