Inaugural Broome Sailing Club Regatta 2011.

Operating from Gantheaume Point beach in north regional WA, Broome, commonly referred to as the Gateway to the Kimberley, with their small dedicated band of members, Broome Sailing Club is preparing for its biggest year yet.

Broome Sailing Club is actively pursuing activities and programs ensuring a sustainable and exciting future which will increase sailing participation. The club is making a major investment in training and special events in 2011 and is in the process of becoming a registered training centre committed to educating and improving the skills of its members. Youth and adult training courses will be conducted throughout the year.

Facing many challenges including having no land base from which to operate, the small membership base is challenged with operational and logistical problems to overcome in addition to revenue raising. Yet by choosing to meet these challenges in a positive way the club is progressing and rapidly developing.

Some simple fundraising initiatives and a successful shire grant application have resulted in the imminent arrival of a much needed replacement safety boat. With loyal support from local business, the built to order boat is due for delivery in March 2011 in preparation for the commencement of the new sailing season, which due to the northerly latitude coincides with the off-season for the majority of southerly clubs in Western Australia.

The Committee is planning to host its Inaugural Broome Sailing Club Regatta in August 2011. The Regatta will coincide with the lively Broome social calendar and will run over the weekend of 20th and 21st August 2011, which is just after Ladies Day and The Broome Cup and coincides with the Worn Art event (Broome’s spectacular Wearable Art Event).

Visiting sailors are encouraged to diarise these dates and join the festivities. The voluntary contribution of any Race Officer planning a visit in Broome at this time, would be very much appreciated.

To ensure open communication with both established and prospective members the club is developing its identity by utilising technology via its website and Facebook page with valuable website links.
