Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships – Five time Finn world champion Ben Ainslie is this evening in a protest hearing after an incident following race nine of the series – the first of two races for the Finn class to be held today, Saturday 10 December.
Ben Ainslie of Great Britain competes on day 8 during the Finn gold fleet race of the ISAF Sailing World Championships Perth 2011
Ainslie said: 'On the final downwind leg of the race, I was hindered by a media boat, the actions of which I felt were seriously impeding my progress in the race.
'Clearly with it being a World Championship, emotions are running high and in the heat of the moment after the race I boarded the media boat to make my views known to the crew. I realise this was an inappropriate course of action and have already apologised to those concerned.'
The outcome of the protest hearing and a full report of Saturday’s action at the Sailing World Championships will follow.
