INCREASING WINDS FORECAST FOR RACE WEEK FINAL

by Ian Grant on 17 Aug 2000
Unpredictable winds will offer the supreme test of tactical racing when the International fleet
contest the final 20 n/ml race for the Hog's Breath Race Week off Airlie Beach today.

Skippers and tacticians will be faced with the important decision to
evaluate the available wind measured at a lazy 5 knots at 9 building
to around 15 by 10.00am to retain their championship placing's. The
duel for the Sydney 38 class Australian championship between the
evenly matched News South Wales crew in Blowfly and the New
Zealand challenger The E Business.

This result will be decided on which crew sails the pressure line in
the soft wind to the best advantage . Both Blowfly and The E
Business have each won 2 heats with Barry Moore's Royal Prince
Alfred yacht club crew showing more consistency in the lighter
winds.

But they will be the targets of aggressive tactics form the Brett
Neill helmed The E Business that must win to take the title.

Relatively light winds in yesterday's South Molle-Daydream Island race compacts the championship
points in other classes. Dr Ian Nicholson's Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club
sloop Intrigue Of Stornaway heads the Performance Handicap Division
A from the impressive Tauranga (NZ) yacht Bushido 11 (Rex Woods)
and Auckland skipper Neville Seward in Lightspeed.
