Yachting NZ RSO, Hamish Hey helps out with the North Sails and Harken NZ hoisting game - 2013 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show - on next month Miranda Powrie
The Hutchwilco NZ Boat Show featured several working activities aimed at giving people their first taste of water sports.
In the Weta Dinghy Central hall, North Sails and Harken provided the gear and sails to run a spinnaker hoist and lowering race.
Run by Yachting New Zealand's Regional Development Officers the novel race proved popular from young children barely able to haul a rope, to the Phantoms of the Foredeck - keen to break the record set by YNZ's RSO, Hamish Hey of around 12 secs for a full hoist, drop and pack.
Over in an adjoining pavilion Youthtown and Yachting New Zealand co-ordinated another group of have-A-Go activities with two pools in operation used for swimming, diving, kayaking, stand up paddleboards and other similar activities.
Yachting New Zealand had the Sailing .... Have-a Go trailer opened up with some of the gear on display along with another spinnaker packing contest, and a grinder contest - again with a competition as to who could set the best time.
We catch the action in the Weta Dinghy Central hall with the spinnaker hoist and packs and also with the same exercise in the SKUD18 set up in the hall.
