Isaac McHardie (Hamilton Yacht Club) has achieved a mark made by only a few young New Zealand sailors, winning the P class double, after he secured a very well deserved victory in the Tauranga Cup, for open fleet competition.

Both events were sailed off Murray's Bay Sailing Club, on the North Shore of Auckland. The events were sponsored by Stack Interiors, and are notable as a talent identifier, with many of New Zealand's top sailors, including Russell Coutts, Dean Barker, Chris Dickson and many others having their names on one, or in a few cases, both trophies.

McHardie was was kept honest throughout the regatta by George Gautry (Muritai Yacht Club) and Jayvee Buchanan (Charteris Bay Yacht Club). The regatta was sailed in a variety of conditions with a little bit of something to suit everyone. The sailors had a great time and are looking forward to the next event for the mighty P-class.

Earlier Isaac McHardie (Waikato-Thames) successfully defended the Tanner Cup, for inter-provincial competition. After being locked almost neck and neck with Nick Egnot-Johnson (North Harbour) on the penultimate day, Isaac put a third and a win (his third win from six races) to take a clear first place overall with Jayvee Buchanan (Canterbury) edging past Nick Egnot-Johnson by the smallest of margins to take second place by a single point.
