Prize giving - ASAF Youth Cup Series 2015 Hong Kong Sailing Federation
The final regatta in the Inaugural Asian Sailing Federation Youth Cup Series took place last week at the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yachting Club. It was the fourth regatta following on from regattas in India, Hong Kong and Singapore earlier in the season and Hong Kong came home from Abu Dhabi laden with medals and the ASAF Youth Sailing Cup Nations Trophy for the 2014 – 15 Series.

“The Abu Dhabi event was a five-day regatta culminating with the medal and final races on the last day” Richard Knight HKSF’s Coaching Director explained. “The conditions were generally light throughout the week and it made the regatta a tactical challenge on the race course. I was very pleased to see the progress our sailors made during the week and also in the series.”

Sheikh Khaled Zayed Saqr Al-Nehayan, Chairman of the UAE Sailing & Rowing Federation and Dr Malav Shroff, President ASAF presented the Medals at the closing ceremony.

The Hong Kong team walked away with all the medals in RS One, a Gold and Bronze medal in the Laser 4.7 and a Silver in the Optimist (Girls). These results from Abu Dhabi combined with the three previous events elevated Hong Kong to the top scoring nation in the series with three Gold, three Silver and three Bronze medals.

“As one of the host cities in the series the Hong Kong Sailing Federation was committed to supporting the series and ensured there was a team at each of the events” Knight added. “Our sailors dedication was rewarded with silverware and the Top Nation was icing on the cake. Now that the series is established we are well aware that the 2015-2016 series will be hotly contested and our youth sailors will be working hard towards defending our titles next year”.

The Hong Kong Sailing Federation is looking forward to hosting the Hong Kong leg again in 2016. Hong Kong Race Week will take place 17 to 21 February 2016.
