Cabo-Hatteras Billfish Shoot Out event
The Australian dealers for Hatteras, Cabo and Grady White game fishing and cruising boats, the also represent Regal Sports cruisers and Bow Riders in Queensland and are the Gold Coast agents for the Signature Series of trailerable runabouts.
The team are game fishing boat specialists reflected in their representation of the world’s leading brands Hatteras, Cabo and Grady-White, and they have also put sponsorship behind the recent 2-day Cabo-Hatteras Billfish Shoot Out at Nelson Bay – a precursor to the NSW Interclub Tournament.
'We have a three year agreement as the naming rights sponsor,' says McCloy, reporting that the event took place over a fair weather weekend, where no records were set, but all participants had a great time and plenty of good fish were caught.
'We had a record number of boats involved – 110 from Queensland, NSW, Victoria and some from other parts of Australia. Port Stephens is a superb venue.'
The heaviest fish caught was a 176kg Blue Marlin, and while it was landed and kept, 97% of the fish caught over the weekend were tag and release.
'It’s a great fit for the promotion of Cabo and Hatteras boats,' explains McCloy. 'They are renowned US sea boats, over-engineered for the rough conditions here.'
Cabo-Hatteras Billfish Shoot Out
The business moved premises two years ago as a first strategic move for the future of the business. They moved from the southern end of Runaway Bay Marina to the northern retail frontage on Bayview street, with a large street front yard for trailer boats and a large number of marina berths for new and brokerage boats.
The move was instigated to allow a more visible retail presence for the major brands the business represents and to also grow their trailerable new and used boat market.
Recent sales success has seen large Hatteras and Cabo boats delivered to Brisbane, Sydney and a boat into New Guinea early in the new year. Plus a number of smaller vessels into the local South East Queensland market.
'We are doing quite well,' McCloy says, referring to the rocky times in the recreational boating industry. 'Our boats are always in demand by people who do their research and realise the less expensive boats just can’t compare.'
Thanks to the reach and immediacy of the internet, McCloy counts clients from around the world – Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Fiji.
'Our secret is a quality product, good service and sticking to consistent work ethic and that results in repeat business and referrals. People are spending a lot of money on a boat, so they deserve to be looked after.'
McCloy, his wife Carmen and the team have positioned the business for significant growth for next year with the expectation of over 30 new boat sales for the year.
To support this growth Game & Leisure will also be embarking on their biggest ever marketing investment including an extensive campaign including the support of all major boat shows, considerable national advertising, support of local and national game fishing events, owner functions and also embracing new technology with a new web presence and further growth of their Facebook and YouTube social media activity.
Next on the boat show calendar is Sanctuary Cove in May, where Game & Leisure will be exhibiting a range of stock and new boats.
'We will have the new Cabo 40 Hardtop Express – the first one in Australia – as well as a Hatteras GT54, Cabo 36 Express, and the Australian launch of the Grady-White 360 Express. There will be special show pricing on the Cabo 40 Hardtop Express, which we think will add enormously to its appeal.'
