Fundraiser for NZ earthquake appeal in Auckland

by SuperYacht Support on 3 Mar 2011
Christchurch Earthquake Appeal SW

In response to the Red Cross call for donations following Tuesday's 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, YachtAid Global (YAG) and Superyacht Support are organising a fundraiser at HQ Bar at Westhaven in Auckland on Thursday 3 March for crew, owners and guests. The event will include an auction of prizes generously donated by suppliers in the New Zealand marine industry, and food will be provided to the audio backdrop from live local blues band, Stingray featuring Brian 'Glamourboy Glamuzina' and Miss Holly Shepheard.

Auction lots so far include:
$1000-worth of European bed linen from Gilly Baillie of White Linen
Four nights at the Luxurious Eden Rock Villas in Koh Samui, Thailand from Charlie Dwyer of Asia Pacific Superyachts
The fees earned from a crew placement from Superyacht Support Ltd

The organisers are still accepting donations for lots to be auctioned, so if you feel you have something you can contribute, please contact them.

With many New Zealanders working in the superyacht industry, the earthquake will have affected many families of crew or those of their friends. It is also a popular destination for superyachts cruising in the Pacific. For those who would like to contribute to the fundraiser but are not in Auckland next week, YAG has sent up a link on its website for donations. YAG is a nonprofit organisation that can coordinate this on behalf of the Superyacht community to help Christchurch and other areas affected by this disaster.
Go to this page of the YAG website to make your donation.

The earthquake struck the country's second largest city at lunchtime this Tuesday; the community is still in crisis with some rescue efforts still underway. Many thousands of residents have been left homeless and hundreds are still missing, there is no power, water or sewage treatment at present, there is patchy telecoms coverage and the port is currently unusable, according to Superyacht Support, which is based on the North Island.

HQ Bar is located in the Viaduct at 138 Beaumont Street. For further information on the fundraiser night please contact Jeanette Tobin of Superyacht Support at Jeanette@superyachtsupport.net.
