Realteam’s Swiss sailors head to Qingdao, China, for Act 3 of the Extreme Sailing Series that kicks off on Thursday 1 May. Realteam by Realstone, currently lying fourth overall after two events, is enjoying a solid start to the season against the global elite that is racing the international championship Extreme Sailing Series this year. Realteam will fly the Swiss flag high at the home of the 2008 Olympic Games for the four-day event that starts on Thursday and culminates on Sunday 4 May.
Realteam in action
'We want to continue in the same vein,' explained Thierry Wasem, bowman for Qingdao. 'The goal is to stay as close to the podium as possible or even to step onto it!' The Swiss team started the season as outsiders, but soon showed their potential in Singapore and again in Oman, but these early successes have not altered the team’s approach: 'We are not putting pressure on ourselves, simply working hard,' said Thierry. 'We have been training on the Decision 35 on Lake Geneva since the Muscat Act in Oman; the team is on great form!'
Realteam in Qingdao, Act III Extreme Sailing Series 2013 - Extreme Sailing Series 2014
Realteam finished seventh in Qingdao in 2013, but has the advantage this year of being familiar with the very small race area, and given the fleet has swollen to 12 for this event with local Team Extreme Qingdao joining the circuit for the weekend, knowing the course will be a help. 'There won’t be much room that is for sure, but we have sailed here before and that will be a real bonus,' said Thierry.
Results will be uploaded every day at the event website.
