Dick Norris with a ‘natural’ stone on the Racetrack in Dec. 16, 2012. The trail likely formed more than a decade earlier, in the late 1990s; trail formation is very episodic, and most trails last for years or decades between pond-forming events large enough and cold enough to form floating winter skim ice.
