RC44 Championship Tour 2012 second day of racing kicked in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote. The fleet was eager to get racing underway. With a general recall to start the day, the Principal Race Officer was quick to get the black flag out with the forecast for boat breaking conditions.

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race – 'Well our sail wardrobe has been getting thoroughly aired over the last 12 hours,' Singapore skipper Ben Bowley says in his 0600 report to the Race Office. Similar to the rest of the ten-strong ocean racing yachts taking part in the race, the last 24 hours has been testing for the crew, as they deal with the upwind sailing conditions.

Buckley Systems (Ross and Campbell Field) pulled out of the Global Ocean Race, about a week ago after a sequence of crash tacks and gybes while sailing in heavy seas. They are due to arrive back in Auckland at 0900hrs tomorrow, Friday 10 February.
Ross Fields is off the boat already, in Tauranga, to see a medical specialist.

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 - So far this race none of the teams have been able to better Ericsson 4’s world record 24-hour speed record, set during the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race when they recorded 596.6 nm. A trophy is awarded at the end of each leg to the team recording the greatest distance over a 24-hour period by the Volvo Ocean Race’s Official Timekeeper IWC Schaffhausen.

The 2012 Vendee Globe is set to get underway on 10 November, 2012. Skipper Dominique Wavre is not counting on getting much more rest during the upcoming winter as he will be focusing on the event. His monohull Mirabaud is being fine-tuned, while he has started a long programme to prepare himself physically.

Akena Vérandas lost her mast in the Transat Jacques Vabre and is currently have a new one made at the JMV yard in Cherbourg. The monohull is now in for her refit in Les Sables d’Olonne and is due to be re-launched with her new mast in early April. Arnaud gives us more details about what is happening in the refit that is currently underway and tells us about his programme for the 2012 season.

Competitors in the Volvo Ocean Race set out from Malé on 22 January, 2012 and arrived in Sanya, China, on 4 February at the end of what proved to be a hard leg for both the men and the machines.
