Nacra fleet - Nacra 2010 International Championship Diana Bogaards
This year's Zwitserleven Sailing Week opens with the Nacra 2010 International Championship. From Monday June 14 until Wednesday June 16, world's top Nacra sailors will battle for global fame.

The competition takes place on the North Sea along the west coast of Texel at Paal 17, prior to the Open Dutch Championship Catamaran Sailing 2010 and the renowned Zwitserleven Round Texel Race on June 19th. In addition to the sportive fights in the various Nacra classes, the pleasant Texel ambiance will predominate on the beach.

'We want to organize a nice and memorable event,' says Xander Pols from Nacra Sailing International. The location suits this goal very well, so the Nacra 2010 Int. Championship is going to be an exciting combination of racing and beach fun.'

'The organization expects about 75 Nacra's at the start. A total of 31 teams representing seven countries have entered so far, from which most of the competitors will sail the F18 Nacra Infusion. The Nacra 2010 Int. Championship is open for the F18 Infusion, Nacra 20 carbon and the Open Class. Participants, who subscribe before May 15, will save 50 euro.'

Full sailing program
As of Monday June 14, two morning races are scheduled every day, followed by a lunch break. On Monday and Tuesday, the fleet will continue racing in the afternoon.

The final two heats will take place on Wednesday morning, which leaves the option open to participate at the Open Dutch Championship Cat Sailing as well. This event commences in the afternoon, so the Nacra crews will have had their warming-up by then.

Beach fun
Cat sailing, beach and sea are indissolubly associated with each other. This combination characterizes the world of beach cats and that is why the organization of the Nacra 2010 Int. Championship wants to emphasis this feature with a social program.

Pols explains: 'We will have two big tents in the Pit Lane for the daily happy hours and dinners. This is going to be the heartbeat of our event, where the sociability is most important.'

The Nacra 2010 Int. Championship, part of the Zwitserleven Sailing Week, is organized by the Nacra Int. Class Association and the Nacra Dutch Class Association under auspices of the Royal Netherlands Sailing Association.
