Volvo Ocean Race – Team Brunel vann Göteborgs In-Port Race

Volvo Ocean Race – Det nederländska laget Team Brunel vann dagens In-Port Race i Göteborg. Men poängen räckte inte för att ta förstaplatsen från Abu Dhabi Racing team, som vinner både i totalen och i In Port Race-serien. Team SCA tog andraplatsen idag och säkrade därmed en tredjeplats i Volvo Ocean Race In-Port Series.

Den korta kappseglingen i Göteborgs hamninlopp avgjordes i lätta vindar men blev ändå händelserik. Banan kantades av åskådarbåtar som tagit sig ut på havet för att se det sista tävlingsmomentet i Volvo Ocean Race In-Port Series.

Danska Team Vestas Wind tog starten men hamnade efter på det första varvet. Då tog istället Team Brunel kommandot och det nederländska laget med veteranen Bouwe Bekking som skeppare kunde ohotat ta hem segern.

Team SCA, med Kronprinsessan Victoria som gäst ombord, gjorde en stark insats och seglade in på en andraplats. Det betyder att svenskbåten säkrade en tredjeplats i den totala In-Port-serien.
– Vi har redan frågat om Kronprinsessan vill vara med och segla med oss igen, säger Team SCA:s skeppare Sam Davies och fortsätter:
– Hela laget gjorde riktigt bra ifrån sig idag och kommunikationen funkade väldigt bra ombord. Vi kände att vi verkligen ville avsluta på topp här i Göteborg.

För kinesiska båten Dongfeng Race Team, men svensken Martin Strömberg ombord, gick det sämre. En dålig start gjorde att teamet fick svårt att knappa in på sina motståndare, men lyckades ändå ta sig in på en fjärde plats.
– Vi är lite besvikna på vår insats idag, men om man sammanfattar hela tävlingen så har vi uträttat något stort. Jag kommer aldrig glömma den här veckan och mottagandet vi fått i Göteborg. Det är nästan svårt att beskriva men det har varit fantastiskt fint, säger Martin Strömberg.
