Volvo Ocean Race - Team Brunel completa su tripulación con un campeón

El veterano regatista francés Laurent Pagès ha sido elegido por el patrón de Team Brunel, Bouwe Bekking, para completar su tripulación con la que competirá en la Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15.

Pagès aportará pedigrí a la campaña holandesa pues fue parte del equipo ganador de la edición 2011-12, Groupama. Además, el galo ocupó la posición de capitán de guardias en el español Telefónica Azul en 2008-09 en el que ya navegó junto a Bekking.

'Volver a dar la vuelta al mundo con un patrón tan experimentado es especial para mi, pues con él me estrené en la edición 2008-09 y la experiencia fue genial', ha explicado Pagès.

'Además, me gusta el espíritu del equipo: están entregados, hay buen ambiente y son ambiciosos. En lo personal, éste es un nuevo desafío y un nuevo equipo, así como un nuevo barco que quiere ganar la Volvo Ocean Race'.

Bekking se ha mostrado igual de satisfecho con la incorporación de su antiguo compañero de filas. 'Laurent es un regatista fantástico con quien he navegado en proyectos de éxito durante muchos años'.

'Sus capacidades técnicas, su buen ojo para los detalles, y el hecho de que haya ganado en varias competiciones de one-design así como la última Volvo Ocean Race son cualidades que cualquier patrón desea en sus tripulantes. Además su carácter se adapta perfectamente al del resto de los chicos, así que estoy muy contento de que se una a nosotros'.

Con la incorporación de Pagès, el Team Brunel ya tiene a su plantel de regatistas al completo, compuesto además por Bekking (HOL), Gerd-Jan Poortman (HOL), Pablo Arrarte (ESP), Jens Dolmer (DIN), Andrew Cape (AUS), Rokas Milevicius (LTU) y Louis Balcaen (BEL). Sólo queda por anunciar el reportero a bordo.

La regata dará comienzo el 4 de octubre de 2014 con la regata In-Port de Alicante, y acaba en Gotemburgo el 27 de junio de 2015 tras pasar por 11 países y cubrir 38,739 millas náuticas, más de 70.000 Volvo Ocean Race
